The Greatest Smoothie So Far…

There are a lot of things that have been keeping me busy at ksb towers… and to break the mould, one of them has been a smoothie maker. ‘Break the mould’ because, of course, the title of this blog comes from fast food, not healthy food. Nevertheless, I recently took the plunge and bought a cheap smoothie maker in the hope that I’d get a bit more fruit in my diet.

For the uninitiated, a Smoothie Maker is a blender with a container that has a ‘stirrer’ built-in, and a convenient tap to pour your healthy beverage from… my particular model, by Kenwood, also claims to have a blade especially suited to breaking ice (a common ingredient of smoothies).

We tried a few recipes from the book, but so far, have mostly stuck with smoothies made from:

  • Plain natural yoghurt;
  • Bananas;
  • Strawberries;
  • Ice cubes.

On the whole, these work well but not one of them was really, really tasty like ‘Innocent’ smoothies or some other brands that you can buy. But, by luck or excellent judgement on the part of my significant other, we now have the following ‘Best Ever’ smoothie recipe:

  • 250ml Plain natural yoghurt;
  • 1/2 Papaya (Paw Paw), skinned, de-seeded and sliced;
  • 1/2 Mango, skinned, de-stoned and sliced;
  • 1 Banana, sliced;
  • 6 ice cubes;
  • …and a splash of milk.

Not being the best at naming things, I have christened this ‘Kristy’s Mango Banaya Crush’.

And if at some point the smoothie maker ends up at the back of the cupboard? Well, I’ve already eaten nearly one hundred extra portions of fruit that I would not have had otherwise… so I reckon it’s already a big success.
