Excellent! Just found out that my surge protectors are high enough quality to have an active display that the surge protection is working (apparently, they can wear out) Continue reading

A Word on WordPress
Well, a month or two ago I thought that it was time to reconsider my choice of blog software. I really did not want to use a web blog-hosting-service, and after a bit of mild research, came up with WordPress as a suitable starting point. Continue reading
Web Rating Systems Devalued by Users?
Recently, I sold a number of items on ebay, and have bought many items from Amazon marketplace – and a web-electronics dealer that I had never used before. In each case, rating systems became important parts of the sale or purchase. So, although they have different names, we are referring to eBay’s ‘Feedback Score’, Amazon MarketPlace ‘Ratings’, and probably any number of shop-comparison sites’ ‘Review’ systems. Continue reading

The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking

Nevertheless, I recently took the plunge and bought a cheap smoothie maker in the hope that I’d get a bit more fruit in my diet. Continue reading
Data is not like Sheep
I hate it when I hear or read phrases like ‘these data’. It looks, feels and sounds plain wrong to me, and if not wrong then clumpy and turgid, like something you’d regret stepping in. Continue reading
Real World Problems
I’m sure it depends on the coding background that you have, but here is a real-world problem from my experience (though the experience was thankfully years ago, so some details are a bit hazy). Continue reading
BrainTeaser Interview Questions Considered Harmful
Brainteaser questions like those found on www.techinterview.org are things that I tend not to be very good at. I’m probably better than the average population, but certainly many people will wipe the floor with me when it comes to solving these things. Continue reading
