Today I’m going to tell you the story of the best job I never got. And it’s entirely true, which is nice. Continue reading

Real World Styles (Part 1 – Canon Camera Picture Styles)
Anyone who has read more than a few entries on this site will probably realise that I am a little bit obsessed with ‘Styles’ in both Microsoft Word and tools such as CSS. It struck me that it might be beneficial to look at some real-world things that use something similar to styles to help convey my message. The analogy to word processing or document styles will not always be tight, but hopefully it will be informative. Today, I’m going to look at Canon cameras and their ‘picture zone’ settings. Caffeine Caffeine Buzz Buzz (Duo)
Today I’m going to write about my lovely coffee machine.
The model I chose is the Isomac Giada; not quite as pretty as a Francis Francis X1, but still quite nice to look at (and a whole bucket of coffee cheaper). I now see they’ve added an ‘X6’ to their range, which proudly boasts the addition of plastic to their materials, so they’re obviously going down-market 😉 Continue reading
Saying Thank You
I have just started reading “Mother Tongue: The English Language” by Bill Bryson (published 1990). This is one of several interesting books that I have read on language – titles such as “The King’s English” by Kingsley Amis, Continue reading

Yesterday, I made cruel jibes about MS Word 2007’s new ‘Margin’ ribbon-bar button. Today I’ll look at the Ribbon Bar itself in more detail, and some of the other new features. Continue reading
One More Step to Obscurity (part 1)
I’ve just been looking into the new Microsoft Office 2007 UI changes information here, and also the specifics for Word 2007 here. Oooh – Ahhhh – Doesn’t it look pretty? Continue reading
SSK Mists are Clearing
Recently, I posted about my confusion over the MS Shareware Starter Kit. Well, the mists of confusion are lifting, a little. Continue reading
Whatever Happened to the Shareware Starter Kit?
In July 2005, Microsoft released a piece of software for Visual Studio .Net developers called the Shareware Starter Kit (SSK). A flurry of blog activity foillowed in the next few months about this news ~ but so far I have yet to find some real feedback on the kit. Hmmm. Continue reading
I am Thor, God of Thunder
Well no, actually, I am the guy standing out on his balcony in shorts, in a lovely summer downpour.
The weather had been hot and close. In London, the hot weather often sits without a breeze. We’re not really used to it. Continue reading
